Collections: DC Series Speakers

Type: DC Speakers

Description:

***shown with optional stands***

The DC-X42 has taken over the reins of the previous model, the DC-7,  designed to again redefine the level of performance possible at its price.  By changing to a stand mount this lets us optimise the driver heights for stereo listening and high enough for the sound not to be hindered by a couch when used as surround speakers in a home theatre system.

Robotic machining is required to produce the complex cabinet that houses 4 drivers on 3 individually stepped baffles for perfect time alignment.  The twin 170mm kevlar mid/woofers have voice coils with radial cooling vents so as the woofer moves it cools itself. A cooler driver delivers better dynamics, higher power handling and lower compression.  The previous DC-7 single tweeter has been upgraded to the current twin tweeter setup of its larger sibling the DC-X63, all of this is harmoniously aligned by a unique handmade 2-way passive crossover.

An Acoustic Skin (TM) elegantly covers all this complexity. This design allows each owner to personalise the look of their speakers to compliment their room, whatever their version of beautiful might be. This way every owner gets this amazing VAF sound with a look that they can choose for themselves.

***The stands shown are an optional accessory and are able to fitted with carpet piercing floor spikes.***

Hints on providing images:

Start with the largest size image possible.  The size for printing on a DC-X42 is 600 mm high by 1100 mm wide and printed at 100dpi.  Your image should look good and not pixelate at this size in Photoshop or similar.

Don't worry, we will help you along the way and let you know whether the image is suitable or not, we also provide a small version for your approval before we do the full size print.

*Sold as pairs*

FLOOR SPIKE READY

All Floor standing VAF speakers are provisioned for floor spikes.  Their purpose being to mechanically couple the speakers to the floor. This coupling is critical to achieving optimal performance. Your speakers should feel absolutely rock solid, with zero movement front to back or side-to-side.

AIR CORED INDUCTORS

Tight tolerances ensure consistency and resin bonding guarantees long term stability in all conditions. The high purity copper with air core provides maximum dynamic performance without the compression that cheaper iron core inductors introduce.

HYPERSOFT DAMPING

VAF have performed exhaustive testing to find the most effective damping materials. This generation of Hypersoft offers the best performance yet. Accurate placement within each cabinet ensures maximum attenuation of any internal standing waves.

PARALLEL ELECTRO-MECHANICAL DAMPING

VAF loudspeakers that have multiple woofers have been designed in a way where the geometric relationship between the enclosure panels for the top woofer is different to the geometric relationship of the lower woofer and its associated cabinet panels. The two woofers are then connected together electrically in parrallel enabling the cabinet induced electrical artifacts of one woofer to be electrically damped through the others voice coil.

OPTIMUM Q FILTERS

As no driver is perfect good crossovers also equalise and shape the response of each driver as well as the overal response of the speaker.VAF use a particular type of design aproach which minimises the unessesary stored energy in crossovers, and as a result produce a much more pure and natural sound than conventional crossovers.

STEERED REAR WAVE ATTENUATION

VAF loudspeakers are designed to steer the rear energy in a way that transmits it as far away from the driver as possible while also ensuring that energy passes through internal cabinet damping as many times as possible before ultimately returning to the driver. In this way much more rear energy is damped and hence does not re-radiate into the room. The result is a more pure sound.

DIFFRACTION CONTROL ABSORBERS

Double Layer Diffraction Control As sound moves across the speaker baffle, it reflects or diffracts off the baffle and baffle edges. Twin layers of diffraction control material effectively stop these destructive reflections before they even happen.

SHAPED VERTICAL & HORIZONTAL POWER RESPONSE

VAF engineer the power response of all its loudspeakers to radiate sound as evenly as is possible for each model. In this way the proportion of bass, mid and trebble in the direct sound corelates more closely with the proportion of bass, mid and treble in the reflected sound and the listeners brain can corelate the two making the speakers less effected by a rooms acoustics and easier to place in a room.

TIME ALIGNMENT

Time alignment is achieved by stepping the various drivers (Woofers, Tweeters, Midranges) on the front of the speaker so that the acoustic centres are the same distance from a listener. For this to be effective a special kind of electrical crossover must also be used. All VAF loudspeakers are time algned.

PERSONALISATION

The purpose of loudspeakers it to reproduce sound faithfully, and VAF loudspeakers are famous for exeptionally pure, natural and accurate sound. VAF recognises however that some owners have competing aesthetic objectives. VAF has created a suite of options to assist every owner tailor the look or size of selected loudspeakers to compliment the owners specific needs or room.

STORED ENERGY DAMPING

All speakers take a moment to stop making sound (decay). The faster a speaker stops making sound the less that sound ‘blankets’ sound which follow it, or finer details in the sound. The more evenly the bass, mid and treble decay the more consistent the ‘pitch’ of the speaker. VAF loudspeakers are among the very few in the world that engineer for fast and even decay in all its incarnations. This includes diffraction, cabinet resonances, internal cabinet sound reflections, stored energy in electrical crossovers and more.

TIME SYNCHRONISED ARRAY

While very uncommon, and much more complex to build, Time Synchronised Arrays are the only way currently possible for a loudspeaker to sound natural (accurate).
