Founded in 1978 by serial entrepreneur Philip Vafiadis, VAF started and grew into an incredibly proud industry stalwart.
VAF Research is an Australian private company and we continue to create, design and build great speakers.
The majority of our sales are our own VAF branded loudspeakers and subwoofers designed on very specific and uncommon design philosophy, ensuring more natural and accurate sound reproduction.
Tens of thousands of individual owners in Australia and around the world use our loudspeakers in their stereo and home theatre systems.
Alongside these many individual owners, VAF loudspeakers have been used by The Conservatory of Music (Elder Hall), Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Microsoft, School of Audio Engineering, Telstra, Kojo Productions, Parliament House Canberra, the worlds largest electro-acoustic system at the time at Adelaide Festival Centre and other significant projects and clients.
With our Global Head Quarters located in Adelaide, we offer specialised service with a team of great people who really love our products, and are passionate about you having the best listening experience possible.

We partner with our clients and listen to their ideas to create the best sound solutions for their needs and wants.
We create unique sound solutions for those who appreciate it.
We are proud to be delivering quality, performance and technical excellence for over 40 years.
Mike is our knowledgeable and friendly Sales Representative.
Mike studied audio engineering and some of his previous roles included event lighting hire, a technician in the gaming and wagering industry and an expert for one of Australia’s largest LED suppliers.
He brings to VAF his ability to understand the technical aspects of our products, as well as a passion for excellent customer service.
His exceptional attention to detail and excellent communication skills will ensure that VAF customers continue to experience the VAF VIP treatment they deserve.
Ted is the manufacturing craftsman of our beautifully hand made products.
Ted is our longest serving staff member having joined VAF all the way back in 1993, and having worked in the audio industry since 1985…although his passion for purity in sound reproduction started well before then. If you have ever owned a pair of VAF speakers, it is very likely that they were hand made by Ted.
Ted is key to keeping the whole manufacturing process ticking, not only meticulously building and assembling VAF loudspeakers, he also hand winds and personally makes several of the important components. With nearly 30 years’ experience in making our bespoke products, Ted is more than qualified to make any speaker that we ask him to, and he always does it with a smile on his face.
Ted’s attention to detail extends to his passion for looking after his cars and is also an accomplished guitarist having played in bands for over 25 years - he just loves music!
Marty joined the VAF team in 2017, coming on board to help create and produce new designs to push the envelope even further for our fabulous speakers.
Marty is not only now a key contributor with design work, but he also helps with the manufacturing, research, and sales components of VAF. Marty has extensive background in live music performance, and is very experienced in mixing and running live gigs. Marty is also an accomplished guitarist and is passionate about music: both creation and reproduction. He has years of experience in designing and building amplifiers, speakers and custom systems with major Australian manufacturers for over 30 years.
Marty also loves the outdoors and getting his 4WD to areas that are not normally accessible. He’s also addicted to honey and makes an amazing lentil, kidney bean and tomato stew!
Liz joined the VAF team in 2016.
Coming from an extraordinary career with an international news and information organisation, General Manager of a small communications firm and Chief Operations Officer of a well known ISP, Liz has brought an extremely high level of service and professionalism to her role at VAF.
Liz takes care of the admin and finance tasks, but you will also often find her at front of house assisting customers as well as answering phones, dealing with suppliers and a whole range of other things. Liz can be a little bossy but is always walking around with a smile on her face, and is always happy to help with whatever is required.
Chocolate is Liz’s Achille’s heal, and she just loves good food and good company. She brings a huge smile to those who work with her every day.
